O: Fabric wrap significantly chewed but bird didn't manage to get off. Carpus tight for initial extension but was able to get to full extension with PT. Callous over ulna fx still has some softness and flex to it but is otherwise stable. Elected to leave fabric wrap off since bird continues to mess with it.

A: PT seemed a little uncomfortable at first but less so as loosened with stretching. Fx stable enough to be out of wrap since bird keeps messing with it.

Took x-rays: comminuted fragments staying together, can see signs of early bony callus formation. Replaced fabric wrap.

A: L ulna fracture healing well, wounds near uropygial gland healing well.

P: Ok to end baytril after full 10d course. Catch bird EOD with weights, PT. Leave wrap off if bird removes wrap on own.

Mouth showed signs of mild dehydration and will give bird a few more doses of SQ fluids. Weight continuing to trend up and bird is eating food. BAR.

O: Bandage R side of uropygial gland off and in cage. Wound scabbed along the edges, exposed and torn muscle present. Muscle around base of uropygial gland swollen/bruised/thickened. Wing wrap in place. Unabsorbed SQ fluids present over abdomen. Gave bird 0.2 ml torb IM. Injected wound site with dilute lidocaine, scrubbed and flushed wound thoroughly. Debrided scabbing and necrotic material at wound. Closed with 4-0 webcryl sutures - closed muscle with simple continuous pattern, closed skin with simple interrupted sutures and closed cranial wound with horizonal mattress and simple interrupted sutures. Cranial wound did not close as well, as rest of wound due to less loose skin in area, covered sutures with TAO, telfa/tegaderm. Drew blood from the R medial metatarsal vein.

A: Cleaned, debrided and closed wound near uropygial gland. Cranial sutures at risk of dehiscence due to increased tension at this site, will need to monitor.

P: Monitor bandage over R side of uropygial gland, change every 3 d or sooner if falls off.

A: Adult great horned owl likely hit by car. Right ulna fracture will likely heal with conservative management in a wrap. Unsure if a surgical repair would be indicated but vet will review. Uropygial gland wound into the muscle layer and was matted with feathers and old scab, would benefit from quick debridement and closure.

P: Rx fluids, tramadol, meloxicam, baytril, calcium slurry. Collect blood and fecal. Repeat rads in 1 week. Have AD look at wound tomorrow with possible closure.
